Looking for the best tDCS device to buy?
When searching for a tDCS device, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of information available. What features are the most important? What accessories will you need? Which companies are the most reputable?
Over the years as the industry has grown we’ve independently obtained and hand tested over two dozen different commercially available tDCS devices. What first started as a hobby has turned into a passion, so we decided to create a list of our favorite devices. Every company included has been thoroughly researched and vetted for their legitimacy, reputation, and manufacturing practices.
Based on our collective research, below is our list of what we consider the best tDCS devices available in 2018. Our recommendations are not strictly based on functionality and feature set, but focus heavily on the inner-workings, safety, and assembly quality of the product. We’ve decided not to “rank” the products we’ve chosen, but instead provide this as a list of the companies we highly suggest considering in your search for a tDCS device.
NOTE: Be wary of some review articles which utilize “affiliate” links to receive income (kickbacks) from the sale of the products they promote. A long URL which links directly to a purchase page or Amazon/eBay listing is a red flag that you’re probably reading a biased review.

As of early 2018 we no longer recommend the Apex Type A tDCS device. This decision was made based on our personal opinions regarding the build quality of the product. We’ve since received a number of inquiries regarding this decision, including a (widely inappropriate) threatening email from Apex themselves. Since we believe in the first amendment and do not back down to corporate bullying tactics, we’ll soon be publishing a detailed report of our findings and concerns with the device. We honestly hope this will help Apex improve their products (and their attitude) as they’re a well respected company in the industry.
